The Firkin Whisky Co. The Rare 10yr, Aultmore Marsala Cask 2010

The Firkin Whisky Co. The Rare 10yr, Aultmore Marsala Cask 2010

'Rare & Downright Drinkable' says it all. This Whisky, distilled at the Aultmore Distillery in Speyside was aged initially in refill hogsheads before being finished in a hybrid cask seasoned with Marsala.

Mellow & Luscious at only 10 years old this whisky is punches well above its age. The fresh and fruity Aultmore spirits marries with the sweet and spicy Marsala cask to bring out creamy malt, cinnamon swirl, caramel and dried oranges.

This release is not to be around for long, with a pitiful outrun of bottles as the cask was found to be leaking, so it was bottle it or lose it!

Distillery/Brand Notes

Born in Japan. Bred in Scotland. Enjoyed by an increasing number of people, Firkin is a fresh approach to Malt Whisky.

Everything about Firkin, from the name to the tasting notes, is different. Firkin is a tad zany, and a bit mischievous.

Firkin is about enjoyment, being self-effacing and poking good-natured fun at some of the more pretentious malt stuff out there. Life’s too short to be serious. Life is for seriously good whisky. So, relax, pour a dram, and explore what Firkin has to offer.

Aultmore distillery was founded in 1897 by Alexander Edward, one of Scotland’s best-known distillers, during the peak of the late-Victorian whisky boom.

A secluded site once known for smugglers and illicit stills, the Foggie Moss conceals the water’s source and filters it through gorse and heather, purifying it to the profit of Aultmore’s refined character.

The malted barley has no hint of peat smoke, ensuring the smoothest, cleanest taste. This rarest of Speyside classics has been distilled in handmade copper pot stills since 1897.
